N.H. poll: Biden's favorability in the state is at an all-time low

President Joe Biden's favorability ratings are at an all-time low among residents of the state that holds the nation's first presidential primary, according to a poll released Tuesday by the University of New Hampshire. Only one-fifth of New Hampshire residents want Biden to seek a second term in 2024, according to the poll.

The president is statistically tied with Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg in 2024 presidential support, survey results show. He also trails a handful of potential 2024 candidates in favorability, including Democratic Sens. Elizabeth Warren, Bernie Sanders and Cory Booker.

The percentage of Democrats who want Biden to run again has tanked since this time last year, from 74 percent to 31 percent, according to this year's poll.

And among New Hampshire members of both parties, the poll also shows concern for Biden's age: 78 percent of respondents overall said they were at least somewhat concerned, including 75 percent of Democrats. The president tested positive for Covid on Thursday, though his doctor said Tuesday his symptoms are "almost completely resolved."

The survey was conducted among 1,043 New Hampshire adults, including 430 likely 2024 Democratic primary voters, from July 21-25.

The results came after at least three other surveys this month showed Biden matching or exceeding record lows on his approval rating. A New York Times/Siena College poll in early July showed 64 percent of Democratic voters would prefer someone else to run in 2024.

The president has faced criticism in recent months on inflation, as well as perceived inaction from some on the left on abortion rights and climate issues.

Biden responded to that New York Times poll earlier this month, insisting Democrats "want me to run."

"Read the polls. Read the polls," Biden said at the time.
