Democratic Rep. Marcy Kaptur will face Republican J.R. Majewski in the general election after Majewski won a three-way primary early Wednesday morning in Ohio's 9th District.
Majewski had 36 percent of the vote to 31 percent for Craig Riedel and 29 percent for Theresa Gavarone when the Associated Press called the GOP primary.
The primary had developed as something of a proxy war between two wings of the congressional Republican Party: Gavarone, a state senator, won support from the likes of the Republican Main Street Partnership and Rep. Bob Latta (R-Ohio), while Riedel, a state representative, had Rep. Jim Jordan's (R-Ohio) endorsement and said he'd join the House Freedom Caucus. But Majewski, who once painted Trump’s face on his lawn and raised $25,000 to escort a group down to the Jan. 6 rallies, emerged victorious.
