Special Chancellor Debbra K. Halford, speaks during a hearing Tuesday, July 5, 2022, on a lawsuit filed by Mississippi's only abortion clinic, which is trying to remain open by blocking a law that would ban most abortions in the state. In a ruling issued Tuesday afternoon, Halford denied a request by the clinic to block Mississippi's "trigger" law. Mississippi Attorney General Lynn Fitch had certified the state's trigger law banning abortion except in cases where the mother's life is in danger or a rape has been reported to law enforcement. The clinic is expected to close when the law takes effect on Thursday. (AP Photo/Rogelio V. Solis, Pool)
