Fetterman to hold first campaign event since stroke next Friday

Pennsylvania Senate Democratic nominee John Fetterman is getting back on the campaign trail with his first public event since suffering a stroke in May

The campaign stop will take place next Friday evening in Erie, a key bellwether county in the state, according to details shared first with POLITICO. It will be open to the press.

Fetterman has been on the sidelines of the campaign since mid-May, when he was nearly killed by a blood clot in his brain just before the Democratic primary. He still won the nomination easily and has been working on his recovery since then. Recently, he attended several private fundraising events and has held other meetings with campaign staff and volunteers.

Fetterman has said his physical recovery is going well and he has clearance from his doctors to continue the campaign against Republican physician Mehmet Oz for one of the most important and hotly contested Senate seats in the country. But Fetterman has also acknowledged that he sometimes stumbles over words and has trouble with his hearing as he works toward full recovery.
